About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide cost control across complex projects with multiple stakeholder interests and interdependencies
  • Raise standards and drive improvements in cost management in accordance with governance standards and delegations
  • Track variances with monthly integration of scheduling and risk management
  • Monitor and control budgets through robust forecasting and change management
  • Provide financial and cost-controls advice for contract management
  • Support management of variations, contractor payments, and invoice disputes
  • Prepare and present cost reports, KPI reporting, and variance-analysis commentary
  • Prepare cost plans, including cost flow and cash flow
  • Analyse systems, processes, and procedures to support continuous improvement
  • Provide advice to identify, manage, and minimise actual and potential cost pressures
  • Drive value-for-money outcomes and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Ensure accurate allocation of actual costs
  • Use Earned Value Management and other performance-measurement techniques to monitor performance
  • Provide regular updates on key projects, programs, issues, and priorities
  • Work with project owners, contractors, and infrastructure investors across energy, water, transport, resources, and data-centre sectors
  • Collaborate with experienced practitioners on complex project challenges and contribute to client advisory and project delivery

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in construction, engineering, finance, or related fields from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Extensive proven experience developing and delivering complex rail and/or transport infrastructure and oil & gas projects
  • Specific experience developing integrated project controls
  • Experience maintaining effective, best-practice project controls
  • Experience analysing scheduling, risk management and change control, including integration with cost-control outputs on large infrastructure projects
  • Ability to make complex judgments on strategies affecting customer service, safety, and cost effectiveness
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment undergoing substantial change
  • Ability to work collaboratively, exchange information, and assist team members
  • Experience working within client-side project teams and providing independent cost management and commercial advice
  • Experience in contract administration, variation assessment and change management, including evaluating cost impacts and supporting commercial decisions
  • Strong understanding of claims, contractual and commercial matters associated with major infrastructure projects
  • Experience developing and improving cost reporting, forecasting and project-controls processes
  • Ability to work across cost, commercial, planning, risk and project-management disciplines
  • Experience communicating complex cost and commercial information to senior management and key project stakeholders
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment and embedded within client organisations
  • May have direct reports and manage a team of cost controllers
  • Demonstrated implementation of best practice
