About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform venipunctures at HNL clients and home draw locations
- Collect specimens and explain proper patient collection procedures
- Clarify orders and pre-analytical test requirements
- Perform patient registration, requisition lab orders, and verify billing information
- Assess specimen suitability according to laboratory criteria and SOPs
- Travel to nursing homes, home draw sites, and other locations for specimen collection
- Process, store, and transport specimens according to laboratory procedures
- Respond to customer inquiries about specimen requirements and testing schedules
- Maintain knowledge of specimen requirements and collection devices
- Maintain supply inventory and an orderly work area
- Provide on-call and mobile services as required
- Assist with orientation, training, and mentoring of new staff
- Report collection statistics, patient wait times, and patient satisfaction surveys
- Participate in Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs
- Record and document mileage reimbursement through established electronic processes
- Perform waived testing, patient order entry, and specimen processing with general supervision
- Provide logistical support to team members and general assistance to customers
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED
- 6 months to 2 years related experience and/or training preferred
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees
- Bilingual Spanish proficiency may be required based on service location
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate rates, ratios, and percentages
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding and solve problems in standardized situations
- Knowledge of word processing software
- Valid driver’s license from the state of residence and clean driving record
- Reliable transportation accessible for essential duties
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification covering adults, children, and infants; certification will be provided if needed
