About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and manage systems producing modern modular single-family, multi-family, and light commercial designs to a high level of factory completion
  • Provide efficient methods of plant production procedures supporting company goals and initiatives
  • Use AutoCAD and Chief Architect to develop, create, draw, and modify accurate designs from sketches or notes
  • Confer with builders, investors, architects, and engineers regarding design approvals and changes
  • Develop and manage new and existing floor plan series and standard structural options
  • Analyze and develop custom buildable floor plans from sales-driven concepts
  • Communicate issues and ideas with builders, investors, architects, and engineers
  • Assist production and quote drafting with electrical, plumbing, and necessary takeoffs for project construction
  • Assist the drafting manager with drawings for multifamily and commercial project approvals
  • Communicate with architects, engineers, developers, and state and county officials on production plans
  • Research and develop Chief Architect capabilities for production drawings
  • Submit plans and specifications to the State of Minnesota and other state entities for project approval
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships and good housekeeping practices
  • Follow safety rules and use required safety equipment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate degree (A.A.) in CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 3 to 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous home construction experience helpful
  • Preferred residential and commercial experience
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or Chief Architect design software
  • Knowledge of internet software, spreadsheets and word processing
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts involving discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must conform with safety rules and use appropriate safety equipment
