About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as lead technician on complex commercial and industrial HVAC service calls
- Provide preventative maintenance, start-up, warranty, repair, replacement, and system modification services
- Diagnose and repair HVAC systems using blueprints, equipment manuals, engineering specifications, and control schematics
- Troubleshoot issues that other technicians have been unable to resolve
- Train, coach, mentor, and review the work of junior and mid-level technicians
- Survey customer sites, report deficiencies, and identify sales or upgrade opportunities
- Plan and prepare on-site installations and repairs, coordinating materials and trades
- Develop action plans, root-cause analyses, and long-term reliability recommendations for complex failures
- Determine and secure replacement parts, complete repairs, and return unused or refundable parts
- Serve as technical liaison with customers, presenting findings, options, and recommendations
- Document work through field service reports, equipment log sheets, and required paperwork
- Operate and maintain a company vehicle
- Provide advanced technical support to customers and internal field teams, including phone/remote troubleshooting
- Support hiring, onboarding, and technical training initiatives
- Stay current on industry codes, technologies, and product developments
- Represent the company at relevant training and industry events
- Work overtime, weekends, and occasional after-hours call-outs as needed
- Conduct oneself professionally as a company representative
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's Degree or equivalent from a Technical/Trade School with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
- Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of related HVAC service experience, including demonstrated experience with complex commercial/industrial systems
- Proven experience mentoring, training, or informally leading other technicians
- Strong working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office software, and building automation/control systems
- Advanced ability to read, interpret, and communicate complex technical information, both verbally and in writing
- Strong quantitative skills, including rates, ratios, percentages, load calculations, and technical/graphical data interpretation
- Demonstrated ability to identify root causes of recurring or complex problems and develop cost-effective, long-term solutions
- Must pass pre-hire requirements including background check, motor vehicle report, and drug screening
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Must possess EPA-mandated Universal certification for refrigerant handling
- Additional certifications preferred, including NATE, manufacturer-specific, and controls/BAS certifications
- Ability to work overtime/weekends as necessary
- Willingness to travel occasionally, including overnight stays
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 75 lbs and working outdoors, in mechanical rooms, and in extreme weather conditions
