About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, launch, and support features across Scheduling, HR Management, and Payroll
Deliver reliable, testable, and maintainable code where accuracy matters
Solve problems across Scheduling, Time Tracking, HRM, and Payroll
Stay close to small business owners and workers and prioritize customer pain points
Use AI and agentic tools across design, coding, testing, and reviews
Provide code reviews and advance engineering standards
Mentor engineers around you and bring junior engineers along
Partner with Product Managers, Designers, and Data
Lead implementation of components and services
Own estimates, execution, delivery, and iterative improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong software engineering fundamentals and a record of shipping production software that customers depend on
Strong background in Ruby on Rails is ideal
Clean design, solid tests, and thoughtful trade-offs
Comfort working in a high-velocity environment where shipping fast and iterating matters
Clear communication and ability to work with Product, Design, and Data
Active AI fluency; use AI tools daily and demonstrate impact
Experience with payroll, scheduling, workforce management, or similarly complex business domains is a plus
Ability to lead implementation of components or services and deliver projects end to end
Ability to own estimation, execution, and iterative improvement
Ability to mentor junior engineers
Must work in-office Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Toronto; Homebase does not currently offer relocation assistance
