About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead, coach, and develop a small team of high-producing Loan Officers.
  • Establish structure and support for managing high volume.
  • Monitor team and individual KPIs and SLAs, identify performance gaps, and create coaching and action plans.
  • Foster a culture focused on every customer and deal opportunity.
  • Maintain expertise in conventional, FHA, VA, investor, and Homeward-specific lending guidelines.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex scenarios.
  • Coach sales conversations, objection handling, follow-up strategy, agent communication, and pipeline prioritization.
  • Develop Loan Officers who build strong agent relationships.
  • Handle customer and agent escalations.
  • Partner with Sales and Operations to improve file quality and execution.
  • Partner with Mortgage leadership and Homeward teams on mortgage products and offerings.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings and 1:1s.
  • Foster a competitive, collaborative team environment.
  • Operate resourcefully in a lean, fast-moving environment.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of residential mortgage experience, including direct experience originating purchase loans.
  • 2+ years of experience leading, coaching, or managing Loan Officers in a high-production sales environment.
  • Deep working knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, and NonQM guidelines.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply agency and investor requirements to complex borrower scenarios.
  • Proven experience leading a team to meet or exceed sales and conversion goals.
  • Customer- and agent-first mindset with high standards for communication, urgency, and follow-through.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use performance data to identify opportunities and drive action.
  • Excellent judgment balancing sales urgency, customer advocacy, credit risk, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong cross-functional partnership skills with Operations, Underwriting, Secondary, Compliance, Product, and senior leadership.
  • Comfort operating in an environment where leaders help create solutions.
  • Strong ownership, high standards, and a bias toward action.
  • Genuine desire to develop team members and improve performance.
  • Drive to build differentiated mortgage solutions.
