About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify, evaluate, and treat speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders
  • Develop and update individualized plans of care with patients and family members
  • Implement skilled, evidence-based therapy and teach therapeutic procedures to patients, families, and staff
  • Evaluate patients under physician direction and establish measurable treatment goals and discharge plans
  • Perform objective measurements, including modified barium swallow studies and fiber-optic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing when appropriate
  • Maintain medical-record documentation, treatment notes, plans, progress reports, discharge summaries, patient charges, and billing sheets
  • Confer with interdisciplinary teams and medical personnel regarding treatment, patient status, discharge needs, care level, and equipment
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, staff meetings, in-services, committees, utilization review, and mentoring programs
  • Identify department needs and process improvements and serve as a therapy resource
  • Support recruitment and retention through positive role-modeling and peer relationships

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Inpatient NICU experience required
  • Willingness to work at a minimum of 3 medical centers
  • ASHA certification required
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university approved by ASHA, prior to starting employment
  • Current Arizona license to practice Speech-Language Pathology with Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA, or Clinical Fellow with a current Temporary Arizona License in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the Arizona Department of Health Services
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to starting employment
  • Six months of experience preferred
  • PRN day shift availability, 8:30 am–5:00 pm, with rotating holidays and weekends
