About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Obtain and document reasons for visits and patient vital signs
  • Collect, process, track, log, and transport specimens
  • Stock, maintain, clean, and check medical supplies, instruments, and equipment
  • Prepare patients, instruments, and supplies for scheduled procedures
  • Schedule diagnostic and therapeutic services and monitor follow-up of test results
  • Under licensed supervision, prepare and administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances as permitted by competency
  • Process prescription requests and refills
  • Perform basic office procedures, examinations, and provider-ordered tests
  • Provide patient care instructions and education
  • Gather comprehensive patient health information and return patient calls
  • Complete pre-visit planning, visit preparation, health history collection, and medication review in the EHR
  • Manage daily patient flow and prioritize delegated care tasks
  • Support providers during visits and exams by entering records, carrying out orders, and completing post-visit education
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, medical records, clinical competency, and required compliance education
  • Promote patient safety, infection control, standard precautions, privacy, and emergency interventions
  • Prepare sites for invasive joint injections and aspirations using sterile techniques
  • Assist with post-operative dressing changes, suture removal, and wound care under direct supervision
  • Maintain clean, stocked, and presentable exam rooms
  • Participate in programs and huddles
  • Collaborate cooperatively within the unit and with other departments
  • Identify process improvements, maximize efficiency, manage costs, and provide performance feedback

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 years of Medical Assistant experience required
  • Outpatient experience desirable
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy, aseptic technique, basic wound care, patient safety, and patient transport techniques
  • Knowledge of communicating patient status through recording and reporting clinical data, including vital signs, pulse oximetry, height, and weight
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), which may include specialized or vocational courses
  • Additional outpatient didactic and clinical training such as a corpsmen or patient care associate program, or equivalent experience
  • Successful completion of a certified medical assistant training program
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred
  • RMA or CMA preferred
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Respect for information confidentiality
  • Initiative, good judgment, and resourcefulness
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance
  • Good basic computer skills preferred
