About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Triage phone calls and patient inquiries
- Retrieve voicemail and EMR messages and return them by the end of the business day
- Schedule new visits, follow-ups, and post-operative appointments
- Confirm patient appointments by email and telephone
- Schedule surgeries and ancillary tests as directed by physicians or office managers
- Place surgical dates in the EPIC calendar and schedule procedures promptly
- Coordinate surgical authorizations and ensure pre-surgical documentation and testing are complete
- Manage referrals and insurance authorizations for diagnostic procedures
- Create, scan, file, and prepare patient charts
- Scan medical records into patient EMR accounts
- Facilitate communication between physicians, hospital departments, department management, and patients
- Complete assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ability to triage phone calls and patient inquiries professionally and efficiently
- Ability to retrieve and return voicemail and EMR messages by the end of the business day
- Ability to schedule new visits, follow-ups, and post-operative appointments
- Ability to confirm patient appointments by email and telephone
- Ability to schedule surgeries and ancillary tests as directed
- Ability to place surgical dates in the EPIC calendar promptly
- Ability to obtain surgical authorizations one month before surgery, excluding urgent add-on cases
- Ability to ensure required documentation and pre-testing are completed, obtained, and reviewed before surgery
- Knowledge of required pre-surgical documentation, including medical clearances, EKGs, cardiology work-ups, and pulmonary tests
- Ability to use double identifiers on surgical chart documentation
- Ability to manage referrals and insurance authorizations for diagnostic procedures within two business days unless urgent
- Ability to create, scan, file, and prepare patient charts
- Ability to scan medical records into individual EMR accounts according to scanning guidelines
- Ability to facilitate communication among physicians, hospital departments, department management, and patients
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
