About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build and maintain the core of Hummingbird’s production platforms
Design and build platform features hands-on in the codebase
Own architecture decisions for production applications
Review pull requests and designs from earlier-career engineers
Mentor engineers early in their careers
Develop across front-end and back-end code
Partner with IT Security and Data and Analytics on data access, integration, and system design
Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration and system reliability issues at their root
Use AI-powered development tools to accelerate delivery while retaining ownership of quality and design judgment
Document technical decisions and tradeoffs
Help shape Hummingbird’s healthcare patient-access platforms and grow the engineering team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
8 to 10+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production systems
Strong, independent programming ability across the full stack
Hands-on experience with TypeScript, Python, React, and Vite, or closely related technologies
Strong system design and architecture skills
Ability to review designs and approve technical direction
Track record of mentoring and growing earlier-career engineers
Process-oriented mindset and ability to reinforce standards through code and design review
Comfort using AI-powered development tools without relying on them for core engineering judgment
Must work from a location within the United States with consistent Internet service
Must work full-time scheduled hours without overlapping outside employment
Computer science degree or equivalent formal background in software engineering (nice to have)
Experience in a start-up or fast-paced environment (nice to have)
Experience in regulated, secure, or high-trust environments such as healthcare (nice to have)
