About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own development work end to end from MongoDB data model through Express API to React front end
  • Take over and become familiar with the existing 3rd Digital codebase
  • Run applications locally and understand repositories, environments and services
  • Document setup, architecture, processes and technical decisions
  • Build and fix features in Genesis, TMRW’s learning creation platform
  • Develop Genesis’s drag-and-drop learning editor
  • Build and maintain interactive learning objects including flip cards, hotspots, accordions, video, 3D and parallax components
  • Maintain SCORM 1.2 export and preview functionality for client learning management systems
  • Contribute to SensAI, TMRW’s AI-powered course-writing assistant using the OpenAI API
  • Build and maintain features in Cosmos Public, the creator-led Next.js learning marketplace
  • Develop functionality for learning experiences, pricing, delivery methods and subscriptions
  • Build and maintain subscription and billing functionality for learner and creator plans
  • Work with Stripe for subscription payments and invoices
  • Design and modify Mongoose models, database queries, indexes and REST API endpoints
  • Maintain and extend the shared Node.js/Express back end
  • Work with authentication and sessions, including email/password authentication, Google sign-in, magic links and two-factor authentication
  • Build and maintain administration functionality for users, content, analytics and master data
  • Work across older React applications and newer React 18/19 and Next.js applications
  • Safely improve or upgrade older code and dependencies
  • Introduce automated tests where testing is limited or absent
  • Test work thoroughly before review
  • Use Git feature branches and pull requests through Bitbucket
  • Communicate progress, blockers, risks and technical concerns clearly and early
  • Work to priorities and timelines set with the CEO

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years of commercial experience in full stack JavaScript development
  • Strong experience with Node.js and Express, including building REST APIs, authentication and session management
  • Strong experience with MongoDB and Mongoose, including schema design, indexing, queries and working with existing data and migrations
  • Strong experience with React and Redux, including older Create React App codebases, modern React 18/19 applications, and Next.js
  • Comfortable working with existing codebases with limited documentation and automated testing
  • Strong understanding of Git, including feature branches, pull requests and submodules
  • Clear written English and ability to provide effective async updates to an Australian team
  • Knowledge of e-learning technologies and standards such as SCORM, xAPI or LMS integrations is nice to have
  • Familiarity with drag-and-drop and rich-text editors such as GrapesJS, Craft.js, Tiptap or CKEditor is nice to have
  • Experience with Stripe subscriptions, billing and tiered plans is nice to have
  • Experience with OpenAI or other LLM API integration is nice to have
  • Experience with Electron or Capacitor apps is nice to have
  • Automated testing with Jest or React Testing Library, plus modernising older dependencies, is nice to have
  • Experience with interactive front-end libraries such as GSAP, Lottie or three.js is nice to have
  • Experience working alongside AI coding assistants is nice to have
  • Must disclose existing ongoing roles or client work
  • Must reflect this engagement on LinkedIn as “Independent Contractor”
