About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Train with an assigned mentor at a designated store across perishables, store operations, and human resources
Learn merchandising, cash accountability procedures, food safety guidelines, and scheduling
Help coordinate weekly promotions to achieve sales goals
Provide prompt, friendly customer service
Maintain a positive attitude and an atmosphere of friendliness, teamwork, and accountability
Assist management with pricing and blends for maximum departmental profitability
Assist with ad and promotional display placement and ensure product quality and quantities meet demands
Assist in meeting store standards for customer service, employee relations, and departmental profitability
Use and understand store hardware and software technology
Assist in forecasting and reviewing the store labor schedule within Store Director guidelines
Replenish shelf products and design and construct displays
Recommend merchandise additions, deletions, and shelf allocation
Work with cash registers and assist in all areas of the store as needed
Handle confidential pricing, sales reports, profit and loss reports, and wage information discreetly
Adhere to Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
Report to work as scheduled and work the expected number of hours
Report to Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Store Operations, and Assistant Manager of Perishables

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school diploma or equivalent experience required
A degree in an applicable field required
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions across varied situations with limited standardization
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages accurately
Ability to interview to obtain basic information, guide and direct people clearly, and follow technical manuals
Ability to work effectively with customers, employees, and store leadership in a fast-paced retail environment
Frequently standing and walking throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation, where applicable
Exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment, where applicable
Ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards, where applicable
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen
