About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop the design vision for Video Poker product-line games, including poker, keno, blackjack, slots, and roulette
  • Oversee the game development process and team to ensure the designer’s vision is realized
  • Coordinate with Producers, Graphic Artists, Mathematicians, Developers, Technical Artists, Test Engineers, and third-party contractors
  • Make decisions regarding game mechanics, art direction, sounds, themes, and mathematical aspects of gameplay
  • Create new games from design ideation through final product release
  • Adapt existing games through reskins or conversions for markets with different rules and nuances
  • Work on multiple game development projects simultaneously
  • Play games, review internal information, and interact with employees involved in game development
  • Understand Video Poker market requirements and bring new games to the market
  • Develop and document design vision for assigned markets with mentor oversight
  • Support team members with design vision development
  • Facilitate game-project development and delivery from initial concept to release
  • Engage and motivate cross-functional project teams while ensuring product specifications are met
  • Identify solutions to development challenges and conflicting expectations
  • Liaise on cross-functional team requests and prioritize them based on impact
  • Review delivered results against the initial vision and identify improvements for future projects
  • Learn game development processes and cross-functional tasks through shadowing and meetings
  • Research target markets and understand market segmentation, product requirements, gaming-market influences, and regulatory requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge of the gaming industry
  • Previous game design experience
  • Previous experience coordinating multiple cross-functional teams to create end-user products from ideation to release
  • Passion and energy for games, technology, and entertainment
  • Conversational ability to interact with technical game contributors
  • Basic understanding of mathematics, engineering, and art principles
  • Ability to communicate ideas and direction to a cross-functional game development team
  • Collaborative approach to quick solutions with test engineers on production issues
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism and feedback
  • Nevada requirement to obtain gaming card and be 21+ years of age
  • Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree
  • Preferred: 1–4 years’ experience in game design or multimedia design
  • Preferred: Previous experience in a technical discipline such as art, math, or engineering
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of designer roles and responsibilities at IGT
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of IGT game development process and cross-functional contributor tasks
  • Preferred: Awareness of market segmentation in gaming industry and gaming regulatory requirements
