About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide coding and abstracting services for outpatient, physician, or emergency room medical records
- Assign diagnostic and procedural codes after reviewing medical records using ICD-10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding systems
- Code Clinic E&M and CPTs for assigned accounts
- Code echocardiograms, remote monitoring, and EKGs
- Assist with claim edits for the cardiology specialty
- Review medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures
- Abstract appropriate information according to client guidelines
- Solicit physician clarification regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation
- Mentor and train coders and/or new hires as needed
- Maintain current knowledge of Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
- Participate in industry forums and support coding education within the team
Requirements
What you’ll need- CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT or RHIA certification; CPC required
- Minimum of 3 years of professional fee cardiac coding experience
- Must be able to code EKGs and other clinic accounts
- Must pass a coding proficiency test
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding principles and guidelines, reimbursement systems, and federal, state, and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing
- Epic/3M 360 experience is a plus
