About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist in maintaining the school-level School Nutrition program in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations
- Perform cooking, food preparation and/or cashiering duties
- Handle learner and adult accounts using mathematics and maintain related records
- Apply meal pattern requirements, standardized recipes, meal standards and portion control methods
- Operate commercial Dining Services equipment, including convection ovens, fryers, vertical cutter/mixers and planetary mixers
- Prepare and serve food
- Clean serving lines, work stations, service areas, storage areas, kitchen floors, equipment and tools; wash dishes and utensils; empty refuse
- Assist with School Nutrition operations during emergencies
- Assume increased department responsibilities when assigned, including directing work, opening and closing the kitchen, and assisting with daily closeout
- Assist with catering events, including preparation, setup, service and cleanup, potentially outside normal work hours
- Provide courteous, outstanding customer service and maintain effective relationships with specialists, employees and the public
- Maintain work habit, sanitation and safety standards
- Maintain required records and reports
- Deliver food products by small cargo vehicles to remote sites, including loading, unloading, serving, cleanup and returning meal counts, cash, leftovers and soiled items
- Act in a leadership role in the absence of the Food Services Specialist
- Participate in ongoing development and support iLEAD Schools' mission, policies, procedures and educational partners
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or the equivalent
- Two years (2) experience in School Nutrition, preferred
- Valid California Driver's License (if duties require)
- Satisfactory completion of ServSafe course and/or current certification, or satisfactory completion within six months of hire
- Knowledge of computers, cash registers, and/or food processing machinery
- Functional skills in reading, writing and basic mathematics
- Ability to work cooperatively with others
- Ability to be flexible and handle a variety of tasks
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance and exert up to 50 pounds of force as required
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform bending, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual tasks
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures, noise, hazards and around chemicals
- Ability to understand, follow, and give oral and written directions
