About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare and maintain the general ledger
  • Prepare and maintain records for weekly expenditure analysis
  • Prepare prescribed financial statements and reports
  • Research accounting documents, records, and books of account
  • Prepare and reconcile routine department reports and statements
  • Perform professional accounting work
  • Prepare fiscal budget requests
  • Manage and direct business office activities when the Business Manager and Business Administrator are absent or unavailable
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the role

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in business administration and accounting, or four (4) years of technical accounting experience
  • UMP employees may qualify through specific proficiency tests and training programs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SAP, and/or related systems
  • Previous accounting, payroll, timekeeping, and/or bookkeeping experience
  • Knowledge of state and/or government accounting laws and regulations
  • Preferred: one (1) year of professional experience in accounting and auditing
  • Preferred: elementary knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing procedures
  • Preferred: elementary knowledge of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting, and equipment
  • Preferred: ability to apply accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems
  • Preferred: ability to evaluate moderate-difficulty accounting problems and analyze and interpret less complex accounting records and reports
  • Preferred: ability to work with written or numerical data and perform rapid, accurate arithmetic calculations
  • Ability to pass an Illinois Department of Corrections/Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice background check
  • Ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ drug screen
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States; employment visa sponsorship is not provided
