About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as working supervisor to assigned food service program staff at the Illinois Youth Center, Pere Marquette
  • Direct and initiate proper health, sanitation, and safety standards for preparing, serving, and storing food
  • Plan, schedule, and publish menus for general and therapeutic diets
  • Direct and monitor staff in training youth in food preparation
  • Assist the Food Services Program Manager
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school
  • Three years of institution food preparation experience or supervisory experience in a large-scale food service operation
  • Current Food Service Sanitation Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health, or current Certified Food Protection Manager certification from an ANSI Conference for Food Protection-accredited program
  • Ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check
  • Ability to pass a drug screen
  • Ability to complete an orientation-training course within six months of employment
  • Thorough knowledge of food service sanitation
  • Knowledge of institutional rules and regulations and requirements for controlling offenders or juveniles
  • Knowledge of large-scale food service procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of preparing, serving, and acquiring food on a large-scale basis
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements for large-scale food service
  • Ability to interpret Illinois Food Service Sanitation rules and regulations
  • Ability to keep food service records, conduct inventories, prepare reports, and requisition food and supplies
