About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead feasibility analysis and site master planning studies
  • Track a three-year horizon of planned efforts to inform the project roadmap
  • Report on project requirements and space-planning initiatives for lab and office renovations or new construction
  • Develop renovation options and create reports and presentations on proposals
  • Partner with leadership to align project strategy with business development plans and initiatives
  • Define and evaluate stakeholder objectives and develop solutions
  • Communicate and manage objectives with architects, engineers, internal project managers, and general contractors throughout construction projects
  • Ensure project planning complies with applicable codes, standards, specifications, internal validation, and change-control requirements
  • Assess facility-space impacts across simultaneous planning efforts
  • Create preliminary project budgets and schedules
  • Partner with Procurement to create and execute contracts and purchase orders
  • Review bid information and third-party cost estimates and determine awards
  • Schedule project review and sign-off meetings and review construction materials and methods
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and appropriately stored after closeout
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and manage third-party consultants and vendors
  • Forecast and document space needs based on departmental growth and change
  • Participate in creating engineering specifications and design standards
  • Provide daily operational support and perform other assigned duties
  • Manage time and priorities independently, plan contingencies, and communicate complex equipment-system concepts cross-functionally

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Typically requires a minimum of 2–5 years of related experience
  • Must be able to create, read, and understand construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to prepare diagrams, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules
  • Understanding of construction and contract administration principles and practices
  • Knowledge of architectural and engineering disciplines
  • Strong design and graphic presentation skills
  • Ability to lead, present to, and interface with clients and consultants
  • Ability to work independently in a highly collaborative environment with minimal direction
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project
  • Analytical and critical-thinking problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of laboratory environment trends and best practices, including casework, equipment, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control areas
  • Experience with Revit, CAD drafting, and Bluebeam advantageous
  • Experience with Laboratory and Environment, Health and Safety standards advantageous
  • Experience working in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry preferred
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or another related discipline preferred
  • Must be able to work out of the San Diego, Hayward, or Foster City locations
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship
