About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a field-based scientific resource and trusted scientific exchange partner for KOLs, healthcare professionals, laboratory personnel, researchers, academic institutions, and other stakeholders
  • Conduct factual, objective, non-promotional scientific interactions in accordance with company policies and practices
  • Develop and maintain expertise in genomic technologies, translational research, emerging scientific evidence, and molecular diagnostics relevant to genetic disease and reproductive health
  • Monitor key publications, scientific trends, and evolving standards affecting genomics
  • Build collaborative relationships with external scientific leaders and stakeholders
  • Deliver objective, balanced, evidence-based scientific education on genomics, precision medicine, and emerging research
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate stakeholder insights to inform Medical Affairs strategy, evidence generation, education, and research priorities
  • Support scientific exchange at congresses, advisory boards, investigator meetings, and research-focused forums
  • Respond to unsolicited requests for scientific information about Illumina products and technologies
  • Facilitate dissemination of approved scientific information and materials
  • Provide scientific support for investigator-sponsored, collaborative, Illumina-sponsored clinical, and research studies
  • Partner cross-functionally with Research & Development, Product Management, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Legal, Compliance, and Commercial teams
  • Contribute to publication planning, scientific communications, evidence dissemination, and external scientific content review
  • Maintain Medical Affairs independence and compliance with applicable regulations, industry guidance, company policies, and ethical standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced degree required in a relevant scientific discipline (MS/certified genetic counselor or PhD)
  • Clinical laboratory experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of and experience interacting with compliance, legal, product management, commercial teams, and other relevant functions in the medical device industry
  • Understanding of genomics, personalized medicine, in vitro diagnostics, clinical laboratory workflows, and genetics background with a research and publication record preferred
  • Greater than or equal to 5 years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry-related experience or equivalent required
  • Ability to interpret scientific data, understand its potential impact on clinical practices and research needs, and communicate scientific data to broad audiences
  • Thorough understanding of FDA, CLIA, HIPAA, and laws and regulations relevant to the medical device industry
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytic skills
  • At least 3 years of MSL experience or equivalent in genomics
  • More than 5 years preferred
  • Must be willing to travel 50% of the time
