About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and execute the US Medical Affairs strategy
  • Facilitate objective, evidence-based, non-promotional scientific exchange regarding Illumina technologies, products, and scientific data
  • Build and maintain relationships with KOLs, HCPs, HCOs, professional societies, researchers, academic institutions, laboratories, and customers
  • Gather external stakeholder insights to inform Medical Affairs strategy
  • Provide scientific education and presentations on oncology genomics, precision medicine, laboratory applications, and scientific evidence
  • Develop knowledge of studies, compounds, and diseases to support scientific discussions with oncology and pathology thought leaders
  • Assess protocol grant submissions to the Investigator-Initiated Trial program and assist with project management
  • Respond to unsolicited requests for scientific information about Illumina products
  • Support oncology and pathology education initiatives, research-focused congress activities, and non-promotional scientific forums
  • Support evidence generation activities and approved or investigational clinical product development
  • Monitor market issues, trends, product knowledge, key publications, and national practice guidelines
  • Collect and synthesize stakeholder input on patient and caregiver needs
  • Review scientific, educational, Medical Affairs, promotional, and training materials
  • Drive the publication plan and review abstracts, posters, presentations, and scientific articles
  • Articulate clinical workflows in oncology settings, molecular pathology laboratories, and medical oncology
  • Maintain Medical Affairs independence and compliance with applicable regulations, industry guidance, company policies, and ethical standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced degree required (e.g. PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, RN, or PA) in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline
  • Understanding of genomics, personalized medicine, in vitro diagnostics, clinical laboratory workflows, and oncology
  • Research and publication record preferred
  • At least 5 years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry-related experience, or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of MSL experience or equivalent in oncology/pathology
  • Ability to interpret scientific data and communicate it to broad audiences
  • Thorough understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other relevant ethical guidelines, laws, and regulations
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
