About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Facilitate effective clinic organization and patient care as a communication link among patients, staff, physicians, hospital departments, and outside healthcare entities
  • Ensure compliance with CMS communication requirements for families and donors
  • Develop and maintain data-management systems for reporting and compliance requirements
  • Perform receptionist, scheduling, patient registration, chart acquisition, telephone triage, prior authorization liaison, and insurance authorization duties
  • Provide backup assistance for daily operations using critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Support hospital and department continuous quality improvement and customer service goals
  • Support one or more patient populations and the transplant care management team
  • Orient and educate other clerical positions as needed
  • Ensure effective clinic flow and gather patient information for treatment
  • Maintain complete and timely medical records and reports
  • Correspond professionally with patients, families, and insurance providers
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with physicians and use the chain of command appropriately
  • Assist with prior authorization for procedures, transplants, and medications by receiving, prioritizing, and submitting clinical information
  • Triage incoming calls
  • Maintain inventory of office supplies, patient education materials, and equipment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers as needed when working at Intermountain Medical Center
  • Demonstrated staff or customer service leadership experience
  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet applications, email, appointment scheduling, registration, billing, and electronic medical records
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, prioritize, and work independently on projects
  • General office skills including typing, faxing, and filing
  • College course related to healthcare, business, and/or computer/information systems preferred
  • Medical Assistant certification may be required for certain assignments
  • Medical Terminology experience preferred
  • Leadership experience such as training others, coordinating work or projects, or acting as a team lead preferred
  • Experience in a Transplant Assistant or similar healthcare role preferred, including scheduling, reception, medical records, filing, prior authorization, insurance authorization, Medical Terminology, and telephone triage
  • Spanish-speaking/interpreter skills preferred
