About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead engineering teams through complex, ambiguous problems involving payments, credit, compliance, and brand strategy
- Partner cross-functionally with product, compliance, legal, capital markets, and solutions engineering
- Represent Engineering in strategic decision-making
- Use AI tools to investigate codebases, assess work complexity and viability, and clarify ambiguous requests
- Hire, develop, and retain strong engineers
- Define engineering philosophy, work scope, delivery practices, and feedback approaches
- Define the roadmap and scope work
- Manage individuals and teams toward outcomes
- Balance short- and long-term priorities
- Own team and business outcomes during Imprint's growth, new product launches, and platform expansion
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of engineering management experience
- Track record of building, developing, and retaining strong engineering teams
- Experience managing through rapid growth, ambiguity, or significant technical change
- Strong technical foundation and prior experience as a strong engineer
- Maintained technical credibility through hands-on engagement or modern AI tools
- Experience managing Staff-level individual contributors
- Experience helping senior engineers grow into bigger roles
- Experience in financial systems, distributed infrastructure, regulated environments, or similarly demanding technical areas
- Clear and direct written and verbal communication
- Ability to scope work, set priorities, and drive delivery through the team
- Experience using AI tools to investigate codebases, assess feasibility, and clarify asks, or genuine enthusiasm to adopt them
- Technical background in full-stack, frontend, backend, mobile, or backend-focused engineering
- Experience with Go, MySQL, DynamoDB, Temporal, Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS is relevant to the engineering stack
