About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee all legal activity and organisational legal spend, ensuring value for money and high-quality service from internal and external lawyers
  • Oversee internal litigation and property legal teams and manage their budgets
  • Manage relationships with partner law firms through quarterly review meetings
  • Ensure partner firms provide high-quality service within engagement terms and optimise added-value services
  • Provide monthly progress reports to the Executive Management Team
  • Escalate relevant legal risks and issues and present to the Executive Management Team and Board when required
  • Advise Executives, Directors, and Senior Leaders on legal matters
  • Draft, negotiate, and vet contracts, legal documents, and agreements
  • Establish a legal framework and bespoke legal training programme to mitigate key risks
  • Manage strategic and operational legal risks within established risk tolerance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Solicitor, barrister or equivalent qualified lawyer with substantial post-qualification experience, including a minimum of 7 years PQE in contract law
  • Right to practice law in your jurisdiction
  • In-depth legal expertise and understanding of legal principles and practices
  • Specific knowledge in at least one of Corporate, Charity, Commercial, or Contract law
  • Proficient senior-level Business Management experience
  • Capacity to attain enhanced cost-effectiveness and achieve economies of scale
  • Experience in business planning, performance management, and value
  • Strong leadership and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to motivate others to achieve service objectives
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with senior leaders and Directors
  • Housing law knowledge is desirable
  • Right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available
  • Successful candidate must complete a basic DBS check as part of pre-employment criminal conviction checks
