About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Participate in mobilisation, knowledge transfer, shadowing, reverse shadowing and readiness activities.
  • Capture and validate Oracle Database operational knowledge, dependencies and evidence before ownership transfer.
  • Administer, maintain and support production, test and development Oracle database environments.
  • Perform performance tuning, troubleshooting, database configuration, user administration, maintenance tasks and reporting systems support.
  • Support backup supervision, disaster recovery planning and testing, Business Continuity controls, database health monitoring and rapid service restoration.
  • Collaborate with application and development teams on databases, stored procedures, database structures and processes.
  • Support reliable integrations and automated data flows between business systems.
  • Review and create SOPs, runbooks and knowledge articles.
  • Identify automation and optimisation opportunities.
  • Work within ITIL-aligned Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration Management processes.
  • Collaborate with customer stakeholders, incumbent supplier SMEs, service management, infrastructure, application support, security and programme teams.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven experience as an Oracle Database Administrator in complex environments.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical databases, including performance tuning, fault diagnosis, service restoration and operational maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of PL/SQL, stored procedures, database structures, security controls and user administration.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery, including RMAN, disaster recovery and business continuity processes.
  • Experience with database monitoring and operational support.
  • Experience working in IT support or service operations, ideally within a pressured or 24/7 environment.
  • Ability to produce clear technical and operational documentation and contribute to knowledge transfer and service transition activities.
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Server, or willingness to develop skills in SQL Server and other relevant technologies.
  • Strong understanding of IT Service Management principles.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Natural Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Relevant Oracle Database administration experience, training or certification.
  • Desirable: Experience with Oracle RAC and Data Guard or equivalent database resilience technologies.
  • Desirable: Experience with Oracle multitenant architecture, database migrations and upgrades.
  • Desirable: Experience with Oracle patching.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of database observability, automation, scripting and standardisation.
  • Desirable: Experience with CMDB, asset management, dependency mapping or service impact analysis.
  • Desirable: Experience working with cloud or hybrid database environments, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Desirable: Experience within transport, public sector, payments, ticketing, regulated or other high-availability/mission-critical environments.
