About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and run backend services in Go and Python, owning delivery, monitoring, and on-call responsibilities.
- Build and evolve backend services that run LLM-based agents, including tool calling, MCP integrations, structured output, conversation state, and code-based guardrails.
- Build internal web applications in React and TypeScript, from admin pages to complex interactive interfaces.
- Support and develop existing production services through reviews, on-call, fixes, and new features.
- Design data models and APIs for configuration-heavy products, emphasizing consistency, history, and safe changes.
- Integrate services with the wider backend using synchronous HTTP, gRPC, and GraphQL and asynchronous Kafka communication.
- Build end-to-end observability through metrics, logs, dashboards, tracing, alerting, and runbooks.
- Drive technical research and design for new features, evaluating and documenting trade-offs.
- Participate in code and design reviews, mentor engineers, and maintain review standards for AI-generated changes.
- Collaborate with data scientists, backend engineers, QA, and product managers.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of commercial software engineering, with production work on both backend and frontend.
- Production coding experience without coding agents.
- Strong Go, including advanced features used in production.
- Strong Python for service code, including async, typing, testing, and a modern web framework such as FastAPI.
- Hands-on experience building and running AI agents in production.
- Strong TypeScript and React, including non-trivial web applications, complex forms, editors, and data visualisation.
- Strong SQL, including schema design, indexes, query optimisation, and migrations.
- Experience with Redis or similar key-value stores.
- Experience with HTTP, gRPC, GraphQL, and Kafka service communication, with a focus on reliability.
- Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and working Kubernetes knowledge.
- Experience with AWS/GCP core services, including compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
- Experience designing and running observability with metrics, logging, dashboards, tracing, and tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
- Git workflows and code review experience.
- Comfortable with the Linux command line and networking basics.
- Ability to explain trade-offs clearly to data scientists, product owners, and on-call engineers.
- Experience using AI coding agents with full review of generated changes.
