About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assure consistent quality coding and training in evaluation and management, office procedures, and surgical coding
- Train and develop current and newly hired remote and on-site coding team members
- Perform quality assurance reviews to assess comprehension of training efforts
- Provide training and continued development based on internal and external audit results
- Serve as a clinical coding subject matter expert
- Analyze and evaluate documentation issues through research and consultation with clinical staff, Coding leadership, and Coding Specialists
- Audit coders using provider documentation to verify ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS codes for clinic, outpatient, and hospital services
- Audit providers to verify medical decision-making level selection for clinic office visits
- Audit complex surgical cases and document audit findings
- Advise and educate Coding Specialists, Patient Financial Services, Providers, and clinical staff
- Manage Revo Coding Education Email and Education WQs
- Research coding questions from Providers, Coding Specialists, PFS, and Coding Leadership
- Communicate yearly CMS and AMA coding updates and coding guideline updates
- Communicate payer updates, policy requirements/changes, and documentation issues
- Conduct annual internal coding policy reviews
- Create workflows and processes as assigned
- Assist Coding Specialists with coding queries and appeal letters
- Support PFS in researching coding denials
- Develop curriculum and training materials
- Participate in or organize coder meetings
- Lead training sessions
- Onboard new providers on documentation requirements
- Code assigned providers based on department needs
- Attend continuing education classes to maintain coding proficiency and certification requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma/GED or equivalent
- CPMA Certification required or obtained within 6 months of hire
- Coding Certification (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT or RHIA) and/or graduation from a Coding Program with certificate/diploma of completion strongly preferred
- Minimum of 3 years’ medical coding experience or experience in a related medical field preferred
- Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and payer specific guidelines
- Advanced understanding of medical terminology, body system/anatomy, physiology, and concepts of disease processes
- Ability to support the coding department during core business hours, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM Central Time Zone
- Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 8 or more hours per day)
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents
- Ability to lift and carry office supplies or files weighing up to 20 pounds
- Visual acuity to read electronic and paper documents
- Auditory ability to participate in phone or video calls clearly
- Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to comply with company policies, procedures, practices, business ethics, laws, and regulations including HIPAA, Stark, OSHA, and employment laws
- Prompt and reliable attendance
- Ability to work efficiently, handle interruptions, meet deadlines, and prioritize workload

- Newly hired CPMA certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire
