About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Maintain stable, available, and performant production databases
- Set up and continuously improve monitoring and alerting
- Investigate and resolve performance issues, deadlocks, replication problems, and production incidents
- Collaborate with developers on reliable and scalable database solutions
- Propose, design, and implement replication solutions
- Plan and implement database migration strategies that minimise downtime and operational risk
- Support and perform database deployments safely and efficiently
- Build and improve tools and automations for database operations
- Participate in stress testing and analyse database behaviour under load
- Identify performance bottlenecks
Requirements
What you’ll need- Mid- to senior-level Microsoft SQL Server experience
- Strong T-SQL development skills
- Solid understanding of relational database concepts, design, and data modelling
- Strong troubleshooting skills for performance issues, deadlocks, replication problems, and unexpected database behaviour
- Experience with query tuning, indexing, and execution-plan analysis
- Understanding of application-database interactions, including connections and transactions
- Production-first mindset and awareness of live-service impact
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and precise approach to migrations, deployments, and configuration changes
- Ability to take ownership from planning and implementation through validation
- Clear communication and effective collaboration with developer and engineering teams
- Comfortable using English as the day-to-day working and communication language
- Basic understanding of AI-assisted technologies and concepts, including prompting, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and AI skills
- Nice to have: hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server replication
- Nice to have: basic programming or scripting skills
- Nice to have: familiarity with Windows Failover Cluster and Always On Availability Groups
