About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the primary Human Resources resource for clients and leadership, often embedded within client organizations
- Provide HR services and advise client management on employment matters while reducing employment-practice risk and exposure
- Assist with routine and complex employee relations and performance issues
- Guide clients on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, reorganizations, policy creation, and leadership mentoring
- Perform HR management duties including benefits oversight, handbook development and updates, and job description creation
- Enhance and update policies and procedures according to labor laws, best practices, and cultural inclusion
- Identify noncompliance with labor laws and work with management to resolve issues
- Serve as a strategic partner on employee engagement, retention, and issue resolution
- Oversee HR documentation and benefit plans
- Design and coordinate employee onboarding and exit meetings
- Advise on employment issues, layoffs, terminations, reductions in force, equity audits, and compliance
- Participate in HR assessments, benefit program design and administration, and launching new clients
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree required; higher-level degree preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of Human Resources experience with increasing levels of autonomy and proactive engagement with the work
- Experience in Biotech, Startups, For-profit, and shares/options preferred
- Experience working in small to mid-sized companies, from startups to 150 employees
- Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging with clients in a highly professional and service-oriented manner
- Demonstrated professional judgment skills and a positive, inclusive, interactive style
- Experience explaining and presenting HR information and practices to current and prospective clients clearly and with gravitas
- Conversant in Federal and Massachusetts employment regulations
- Excellent administrative and client relationship skills
- Ability to work independently and manage or assign work to administrators
- Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven experience handling competing priorities and deadlines
- Experience interacting, advising, and communicating effectively in a consulting capacity
