About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Handle and resolve complex and/or specialized Surety Claims through investigation, evaluation, and disposition
Make timely and appropriate contacts and complete investigations to determine coverage, assess liability, and determine damages
Determine coverage and prepare coverage correspondence
Respond to coverage questions from insureds and others
Determine exposure, establish adequate reserves, and make timely adjustments
Select, assign, and direct internal and external resources, including independent adjusters, appraisers, and attorneys
Identify questionable claims and consult with SIU as appropriate
Determine settlement values and negotiate claim settlements within authority
Provide recommendations for settlements and disposition of claims exceeding authority levels
Document relevant activity on assigned files and recommend additional activity
Mentor or train less experienced claim representatives
Maintain professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
Juris Doctorate preferred
Minimum of 5+ years of experience handling complex Surety Bond and/or Performance Bond claims
Background evaluating and handling litigated claims
Knowledge of state license requirements
Participation in continuing education as required
Strong professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments
Ability to investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex and/or specialized Surety Claims
Ability to determine coverage, assess liability, and determine damages
Ability to establish reserves and negotiate settlements
Ability to direct internal and external resources, including independent adjusters, appraisers, and attorneys
