About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coach and develop underwriters through day-to-day guidance, file reviews, feedback, and formal training plans
  • Collaborate with team leaders to achieve goals and monitor progress against the department business plan and service standards
  • Lead regular team meetings to communicate priorities and operational updates and gather feedback
  • Manage team performance through performance reviews and career development discussions
  • Own key broker relationships through account planning, pipeline reviews, and performance updates
  • Strengthen broker portfolio performance and develop new opportunities
  • Lead negotiations on larger or complex accounts and provide escalation support to underwriters
  • Promote products and appetite through broker training, information sessions, and market-facing communications
  • Build and manage a profitable book of business aligned with product appetite and underwriting authority
  • Set and track portfolio performance targets and improve results
  • Review and audit underwriting files and decisions for adherence to guidelines, authority levels, and company standards
  • Authorize and support complex new business, renewals, endorsements, and exceptions within delegated authority
  • Monitor workflow, set priorities, remove productivity roadblocks, and maintain service levels
  • Collaborate with claims, operations, finance, product, and compliance teams to improve outcomes and customer/broker experience
  • Navigate internal and market changes through clear communication and steady execution

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University and/or College Degree or any combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience in Contract Surety
  • Previous 1–2 years supervisory experience would be ideal
  • Ability to provide strategic direction and share information with different target audiences
  • Ability to execute short- and long-term strategic priorities
  • Ability to build relationships based on trust and collaboration and influence business priorities
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • Able to navigate internal and market changes
  • Open to some travel (10–15%)
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada from the anticipated start date and throughout employment
