About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan and deliver inclusive in-person and remote scenario-development workshops for frontline teams responding to major crises
- Support teams to develop and track indicators for crisis developments and contribute to information sharing
- Support country leadership to develop and implement access and acceptance strategies
- Help build relationships and negotiate with authorities, power brokers, security actors and community stakeholders
- Build and maintain an internal and cross-organizational humanitarian access and security network
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant methods, approaches and professional developments and represent IRC in global fora
- Identify, analyze and mitigate safety and security risks across emergency responses
- Support implementation of safety and security standards, preparedness and contingency planning
- Support incident management for country and response teams
- Provide mentoring, training and technical support for humanitarian access, safety and security approaches
- Support development and adaptation of systems, practices, resources and centralized knowledge management
- Co-develop a humanitarian access framework with consortium partners
- Develop and update technical resources and learning materials
- Guide, train, coach and mentor country leaders and frontline staff on access, security, Security Risk Management and partner capacity strengthening
- Design, deliver and track capacity-strengthening activities, including training, coaching and peer-to-peer learning
- Contribute access and security content to trainings, conferences and global resources
- Champion effective partnerships and ensure partners participate in access, security and engagement strategies
- Design and deliver partner capacity-sharing activities
- Collaborate with consortium partners on delivery, grant reporting and case studies
- Build relationships across EmU, Global Safety & Security and regional/country teams
- Promote a safe, diverse, inclusive and collaborative work environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 8 years of non-profit or NGO work experience within international humanitarian assistance programs, with demonstrated successes in planning, organizing and managing safety and security in complex and volatile environments
- Significant practical experience in humanitarian access, humanitarian negotiation, civil-military coordination, security management or related competencies
- Substantial and documented prior experience as a facilitator
- Experience with collaborative/inclusive development of tools, guidance and learning materials for/with practitioners
- Knowledge of legal and normative frameworks for humanitarian action and expertise in applying humanitarian principles in practice
- Thorough familiarity with principles and current approaches to humanitarian access and acceptance models of security management, including gender security management and gender equality
- Ability to understand local, regional, country and international policies, operational positions and interactions, and support analysis and decision-making before and during emergencies and major crises
- Advanced skills in humanitarian negotiation, humanitarian-military relations and/or engagement with armed groups
- Strong communication, diplomatic, relationship-building and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in facilitating challenging conversations and challenging teams on strategic, technical and operational subject matter
- Proficiency in delivering training and coaching support to individuals, teams and/or partners
- Ability to work as a member of a multinational team and manage varied external and internal relationships
- Excellent ability to produce user-centered, effective and responsive guidance, tools and materials
- Ability to summarize sophisticated topics and information inclusively, clearly and succinctly
- Demonstrated commitment to gender equality, diversity and inclusion in humanitarian settings
- Ability to identify and address barriers to inclusion for marginalized and underrepresented groups in emergency response
- Experience working with diverse teams and communities, including women, youth, persons with disabilities and other groups at risk of exclusion
- Commitment to ongoing learning and reflection on personal and organizational biases
- Proficiency in English and French required; Arabic and Spanish are additional added value
- Candidates must be national candidates or have residency in Kenya, the UK or Geneva; candidates from other countries with an IRC Office may also apply and be hosted in that country
