About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Implement, supervise daily, monitor, and report on WASH-IPC activities in targeted healthcare facilities and communities
  • Support IPC focal points and WASH-IPC committees in monitoring action plans
  • Inspect triage areas, temporary holding spaces, handwashing stations, waste zones, latrines, and cleaning systems
  • Install, operate, and maintain hand hygiene and waste management facilities
  • Supervise hygiene promoters and cleaning staff
  • Ensure compliance with cleaning schedules and the safe preparation, labeling, storage, and use of chlorine/HTH
  • Support decontamination activities and healthcare waste management
  • Monitor stocks of PPE, chlorine, soap, cleaning materials, and other WASH-IPC consumables
  • Supervise and mentor hygiene promoters, cleaning staff, waste management workers, triage staff, and community focal points
  • Organize refresher training sessions and on-the-job coaching
  • Complete checklists, distribution forms, stock updates, and cleaning verification tools
  • Submit field reports to the WASH Officer and document gaps, risks, progress, and follow-up actions
  • Participate in coordination meetings and maintain relationships with the Ministry of Health, health zones, hospitals, and community structures
  • Support coordination among WASH, Health, RCCE, Protection, Safeguarding, and MHPSS teams
  • Supervise, recruit, onboard, and build the capacity of hygiene promoters
  • Prepare workplans and monitor attendance, performance, and compliance with IPC procedures
  • Immediately report safeguarding or protection concerns, staff exposure, community resistance, serious IPC incidents, or other critical issues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in environmental health, public health, water engineering, civil engineering, environmental sciences, WASH, or a related field
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in WASH programming, preferably with international NGOs in emergency or outbreak settings
  • Experience supporting WASH in healthcare facilities, cholera treatment centers, Ebola response operations, isolation units, or other infectious disease response settings is an advantage
  • Good understanding of emergency WASH standards, including Sphere standards
  • Practical knowledge of hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, chlorine preparation, waste management, and WASH in healthcare facilities
  • Experience supervising cleaning staff, hygiene promoters, or community workers
  • Ability to work in stressful, unstable, and rapidly changing environments
  • Strong reporting, communication, and coordination skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Fluency in French is required; English is an asset
  • Knowledge of local languages is desirable
  • Cover letter of no more than one page
  • Up-to-date CV of no more than three pages, in French or English, including at least four professional references, one of which must be an HR reference
  • Copies of diplomas, certificates of service, recommendations from former employers, identification document, and mandatory job-seeker card issued by ONEM
  • Commitment to comply with IRC safeguarding, diversity, equality, and inclusion policies
  • Strict adherence to Ebola IPC protocols and correct use of PPE according to the level of risk and the task
