About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan and deliver inclusive in-person and remote scenario development workshops for frontline program teams responding to major crises
  • Support teams to develop and track crisis-development indicators and share key crisis information
  • Develop and implement access and acceptance strategies with country leadership
  • Build relationships and negotiate with authorities, power brokers, security actors and community stakeholders
  • Maintain an internal and cross-organizational network of humanitarian access and security staff
  • Identify, analyze and mitigate safety and security risks across emergency responses
  • Support implementation of safety and security standards, preparedness and contingency planning
  • Support incident management for country and response teams
  • Develop and implement humanitarian access, safety and security approaches in emergency preparedness and contingency plans
  • Develop and adapt systems, practices, resources and centralized knowledge management
  • Co-develop a humanitarian access framework with consortium partners
  • Develop and promote technical resources, training, coaching, mentoring and capacity-strengthening activities
  • Support gender-sensitive security risk management and partner capacity strengthening
  • Contribute humanitarian access, safety and security content to trainings, conferences and global resources
  • Champion effective partnerships and ensure partners participate in access, security and engagement strategies
  • Design and deliver capacity-sharing activities with partners
  • Coordinate consortium delivery, grant reporting and case studies
  • Build collaborative relationships across the Emergency Unit, Global Safety and Security Department and regional/country teams
  • Promote a safe, diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture
  • Report to the Director of Emergency Humanitarian Access, Safety and Security; no direct reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 8 years of non-profit or NGO work experience within international humanitarian assistance programs
  • Demonstrated success planning, organizing and managing safety and security in complex and volatile environments
  • Significant practical experience in humanitarian access, humanitarian negotiation, civil-military coordination, security management or related competencies
  • Substantial and documented experience as a facilitator
  • Experience developing tools, guidance and learning materials with practitioners
  • Knowledge of legal and normative frameworks for humanitarian action
  • Expertise applying humanitarian principles in practice
  • Familiarity with humanitarian access and acceptance models of security management
  • Understanding and success in gender security management and gender equality
  • Advanced skills in humanitarian negotiation, humanitarian-military relations and/or engagement with armed groups
  • Proficiency facilitating challenging conversations and delivering training and coaching
  • Ability to work as a member of a multinational team
  • Excellent ability to produce user-centered guidance, tools and materials
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in humanitarian settings
  • Experience working with diverse teams and communities, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other groups at risk of exclusion
  • Fluency/proficiency in written and spoken English and French required
  • Arabic and Spanish are an additional added value
  • Ability to travel internationally, including to environments affected by armed conflict
