About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership and support for fleet operations across the Interstate Batteries system
- Centralize and manage the fleet management program for company-owned and leased equipment across more than 40 United States locations
- Support more than 200 independently owned distributors with fleet management needs
- Build and implement a national fleet operations program
- Manage asset additions, replacements, disposals, leases, vendors, negotiations, budgets, and procurement
- Partner with US and Canada Customer Segment and Corporate leadership to achieve fleet objectives
- Develop cross-functional partnerships and fleet initiatives
- Use JD Edwards EAM to track assets, maintenance expenses, and lifecycle analysis
- Develop technical knowledge and improve delivery and operating efficiencies
- Develop, implement, track, and report fleet performance metrics
- Apply Rapid Continuous Improvement to streamline fleet activities and processes
- Maintain communication channels regarding trucking industry changes
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations
- Staff and schedule maintenance shops and train technicians where relevant
- Develop business plans and policies to improve fleet performance
- Ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available for operational requirements
- Conduct fleet evaluations and maintain maintenance standards
- Maintain clean and safe assets and fleet work environments
- Manage leasing companies and outside maintenance vendors
- Monitor repairs and costs
- Manage preventive maintenance program compliance
- Manage fleet costs, procurement, and fleet administrative personnel
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university preferred
- Lean Six Sigma certification a strong preference
- 7-10 years commercial fleet leadership experience
- Experience managing all aspects of a national commercial fleet of at least 5,000 assets
- Proven leadership through successful financial and tactical fleet operations results
- Proven track record of continuous improvement and improved results
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
- Ability to influence managers, business partners, and key stakeholders across all organizational levels
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable presenting to large audiences and in one-on-one meetings with senior executives
- Ability to grow and develop team members
- Technical knowledge in the fleet industry
- Strong teamwork and individual-contributor capabilities
- Exceptional time, project management, and organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work with little supervision
- Demonstrated initiative and drive for results
- Up to 10% travel based on business needs
