About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the month-end close process
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Prepare financial reports for management and external stakeholders
  • Lead opportunities to automate workflows and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiencies
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and government contracting requirements
  • Support DCAA audits and other government compliance reviews
  • Document accounting workflows, desk procedures, and internal controls
  • Prepare tax filing documentation, schedules, and work papers for federal, state, local, and international tax filings
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and international tax teams as needed
  • Assist with year-end tax reporting
  • Perform gross-to-net payroll reconciliations
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts, including wages, payroll taxes, benefits, and employee deductions
  • Prepare and review payroll journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Partner with Human Resources and Payroll to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure accurate, timely payroll processing

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 3 years of experience within the defense contractor industry
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance requirements
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint systems preferred
  • Experience with payroll accounting, tax compliance, and gross-to-net reconciliations preferred
  • Experience preparing supporting documentation for state, local, and international tax filings preferred
  • Experience documenting accounting workflows, desktop procedures, and internal controls (e.g., SOPs, control narratives)
  • Demonstrated interest in automating workflows and driving process improvements using Excel, Costpoint, or other ERP/automation tools
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively
  • CPA or CPA candidate is a plus
