About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review work completed by property accountants for accuracy and completeness
  • Process and review large transactional volumes of up to 100,000 lines at a time
  • Ensure month-end close deadlines are met
  • Maintain and review bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Work with Accounting Managers to determine workload and cross-training opportunities
  • Review balance sheets and income statements for accuracy
  • Understand financial reports and the impact of the single-family rental business on operating results
  • Mentor and encourage staff and support their professional development
  • Partner with HOA, Leasing, Operations, and other business units
  • Interact with field teams and external partners to review financial results and provide analysis support
  • Prepare and review recurring and ad hoc analyses of financial results, trends, performance metrics, and benchmarks
  • Assist with external and internal audit requests, including SOX, compliance, and internal controls
  • Participate in company-provided training and identify additional training needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required
  • 3–5 years of experience in accounting and financial statement preparation is required
  • Property Accounting experience is preferred
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles
  • High degree of accuracy and excellent time management skills
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Excel functionality is required
  • Experience working with high volumes of data
  • Yardi experience is a plus
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to identify and implement best practices
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, high initiative, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to follow and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to read and comprehend financial statements
  • Ability to work on a regular and consistent basis; overtime may be required
  • Ability to set and meet goals and consistently meet deadlines
  • Must maintain professional appearance
