About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead IonQ’s global media strategy and external narrative
- Drive proactive pitching across global business, financial, broadcast, deep-tech, and scientific media outlets
- Oversee daily activities and results delivery of external agencies
- Serve as communications partner for executives, scientists, and engineers
- Develop briefing materials and conduct intensive media training for spokespeople
- Position subject matter experts for commentary, features, and key industry moments
- Translate complex quantum computing, networking, sensing, and security concepts into clear narratives
- Write and edit press releases, pitch decks, media alerts, executive bios, FAQs, and messaging playbooks
- Maintain the central repository for media messaging and talking points
- Coordinate with Investor Relations, Legal, Compliance, Government Affairs, and People teams
- Assist with crisis playbooks, protocol updates, and reactive messaging
- Track brand sentiment, share of voice, and competitor narratives
- Monitor industry trends, tech policy, and market movements
- Maintain media lists, editorial calendars, press kits, and collaboration tools
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or a relevant scientific/technical field (e.g., Physics, Engineering)
- 8+ years in media relations or corporate communications
- 4+ years specifically in a deep-tech, scientific, or highly technical industry
- Proven portfolio of securing impactful earned media placements across top-tier financial and tech/trade publications
- Exceptional ability to write with speed, precision, and clarity under tight deadlines
- Extensive experience media-training C-suite executives and PhD-level subject matter experts
- Demonstrated ability to leverage technology, including AI-powered tools for drafting, monitoring, and sentiment analysis
- Employment contingent on meeting U.S. export-control and government-contract requirements, including U.S. Person status or applicable authorization/license for access to export-controlled technology
- Preferred: experience with late-stage, high-growth tech startups or publicly traded deep-tech companies
- Preferred: working knowledge of financial media relations and regulatory compliance, including SEC guidelines/Reg FD
- Preferred: familiarity with Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater, or Brandwatch
