About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and evolve core services to handle growth in customers, devices, and traffic, and plan capacity ahead of demand
- Design, develop, and optimize critical infrastructure components to ensure they are secure, scalable, and maintainable
- Implement best practices for system architecture and operations to ensure high availability and performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve developer experience and introduce services that accelerate product development
- Define and implement best practices in software engineering, CI/CD, and observability
- Analyze and enhance system performance for low latency, high throughput, and minimal downtime
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to incidents to ensure reliability and uptime of mission-critical services
- Decompose monolithic applications into independently scalable services
- Build self-serve infrastructure capabilities and shared services that enhance developer productivity
- Own and maintain foundational components including the API Gateway, Service Mesh, and CI/CD pipelines
- Report to the Senior Manager of Engineering for Platform
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in backend programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, Java, or similar)
- Proficiency with AI-driven development methods, such as using AI coding agents to plan, write, test, and review code, with the judgment to verify their output
- Experience working in a B2B SaaS company with multiple product lines
- Deep understanding of service-oriented architecture and microservices best practices
- Prior experience in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
- Ability to identify problems/opportunities, break them down into critical parts, and design scalable solutions
- Proven experience scaling production systems, such as handling significant growth in traffic, data volume, or number of services
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and deployment strategies
- Familiarity with content delivery networks (CDNs) and caching strategies
- Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and/or gRPC
- Experience writing unit and integration tests to ensure high-quality software
- Experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or ECS
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL
- Strong experience with peer code reviews, offering and receiving constructive feedback to maintain and elevate coding standards
- Preferred: experience with API gateways, service meshes, event-driven architectures and message brokers, MQTT and IoT protocols, observability tools and practices, and cloud security and compliance best practices
