About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead UX research and design strategy across complex, ambiguous problem spaces
- Design and implement UX solutions with long-term impact on product strategy and architecture
- Create new design patterns, overhaul existing UX, or deprecate outdated interfaces while balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business goals
- Lead UX research initiatives and integrate user insights into strategic design decisions
- Mentor researchers in advanced methodologies
- Partner with Product Managers from business requirements and user journey stages
- Map user journeys across multiple product areas or the full product ecosystem
- Surface touch points, handoffs, and friction points to inform roadmap prioritization
- Justify design decisions through competitive and design-principle analysis, stakeholder input, and relevant data
- Shape product strategy and roadmaps through understanding of users and market trends
- Communicate the strategic value of UX research and design to senior stakeholders
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops and represent design in high-level product strategy discussions
- Deliver research insights, interaction designs, and prototypes
- Lead design reviews aligning teams around coherent UX strategies
- Mentor junior and mid-level designers
- Contribute thought leadership and educate the product development community on UX trends and best practices
- Solve challenging UX problems, including major usability bottlenecks and undefined high-impact opportunities
- Recruit UX talent, participate in hiring, and benchmark Itential's UX against competitors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in UX design or a similar role, with demonstrated progression in leadership responsibilities and strategic impact
- Genuine UX research and data-driven approach to design, rather than a visual/UI-first approach
- Portfolio demonstrating scoped ambiguous, high-complexity problems, real trade-offs, and measurable outcomes
- Strong command of WCAG standards and track record designing for accessibility compliance
- Advanced proficiency with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Jira, Confluence, Storybook, UserTesting, Maze, Pendo, Heap, Amplitude, and Hotjar
- Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS preferred
- Deep expertise in the product domain and industry trends
- Proven experience managing high-complexity projects in ambiguous environments
- Experience in B2B enterprise software, DevOps tooling, or network engineering highly preferred
- Advanced experience leading complex user research and usability testing initiatives
- Ability to mentor team members in research methods and analysis
- Ability to articulate and defend design decisions using competitive/heuristic analysis, stakeholder input, and data
- Exceptional ability to communicate the strategic value of UX research to senior stakeholders and facilitate cross-functional workshops and design sprints
- Ability to influence product strategy and roadmaps, mentor designers, and contribute thought leadership to the UX community
- Advanced understanding of technical specifications and ability to collaborate with engineering on innovative solutions and influence architectural decisions
- Ability to work standard business hours with flexibility for collaboration across Product, Engineering, and executive stakeholders
