About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build systems powering iwoca’s German business
Design and build full-stack services supporting customer communication, underwriting, and collections workflows
Engage stakeholders from initial problem definition through delivery
Simplify workflows by deciding what and when to automate
Translate operational needs into reliable code that reduces manual effort
Modernise system architecture while managing scalability and dependability trade-offs
Participate in code reviews and design sessions
Advocate for engineering practices and staff user experiences
Own and lead projects end to end
Collaborate with Operations, Operations Strategy, Analytics, and wider engineering teams
Maintain internal systems including underwriting, notification, and account-management tools
Improve information flow and operational efficiency for sales, credit, and collections teams

Requirements

What you’ll need

Proven track record designing and building backend systems using Python
Ability to work across front-end codebases, particularly React or TypeScript
Daily use of AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar
Experience with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL or similar
Understanding of database performance and maintainability considerations
Ability to anticipate technical challenges and improve systems supporting complex workflows
Track record taking work from initial problem through delivery, including shaping solutions, making trade-offs, and iterating based on system usage
Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical topics and influencing team decisions
Familiarity with internal tools or platforms used by large operational teams
Framework experience with Django, FastAPI, and React
Experience with CI/CD pipelines or deployment workflows
Experience using data or metrics to assess change impact
