About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Maintain the hotel’s physical assets and ensure compliance with state/local regulations, hotel policies, and brand standards
- Maintain guest satisfaction, safety, and cleanliness while overseeing hotel infrastructure
- Schedule and perform preventive maintenance, maintaining detailed records
- Oversee engineering department budgeting and cost control
- Manage requisitions for replacement parts and emergency repair materials
- Perform upkeep and maintenance of guest rooms and common areas
- Maintain and clean exterior areas, including parking lot and landscaping
- Troubleshoot and repair water, electric, sprinkler, fire alarm, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and other essential systems
- Supervise, train, and lead the Engineering team
- Report major repair needs and concerns to the General Manager
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, workspaces, equipment, and hotel grounds
- Assist with capital project management and contract administration
- Ensure compliance with safety and security policies, including OSHA, HAZCOM, and Blood Borne Pathogens regulations
- Lead the safety committee
- Document incident reports for guest and team member-related issues
- Maintain uniform and personal appearance standards
- Greet and acknowledge guests
- Perform other duties assigned by management
Requirements
What you’ll need- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and extended hours as needed
- Be on-call 24/7 to respond to emergencies, ensuring prompt onsite attention when required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel; Outlook preferred)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to train and guide staff in engineering best practices
- Able to interpret design drawings, operation manuals, and specifications
- Supervise a team of at least four engineers
- Knowledge of MEPFP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) systems and their repair/replacement procedures
- Familiarity with major hotel systems, including water, electric, sprinkler, and fire alarm systems
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in maintenance or groundskeeping
- At least 5 years of experience in hospitality engineering or facility management, with at least 2 years as a Maintenance Engineer in a Select Service Hotel
- College or trade school equivalent in mechanical, electrical, and/or technical disciplines is a plus
- Relevant certifications in specific trades, such as HVAC, plumbing, or electrical, preferred
- Certified Pool Operator certification may be required at certain locations, or ability to obtain within six months
- Working knowledge of general repair, plumbing, painting, HVAC, or electrical systems
- Previous hotel maintenance experience preferred
- Friendly demeanor with strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently under time constraints, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other team members
- Ability to utilize a computer keyboard, printer, phones, and other basic office supplies
- Firm grasping and occasional lifting of supplies up to 50 lbs.
- Able to stand and walk for 90% of the workday; sitting is limited to short breaks
- Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending required
- Ability to climb stairs, kneel, crouch, and crawl as part of maintenance tasks
