About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Maintain the hotel’s physical assets and ensure compliance with state/local regulations, hotel policies, and brand standards
- Oversee repair, maintenance, and management of hotel infrastructure
- Maintain guest satisfaction, safety, and cleanliness
- Oversee engineering department budgeting and cost control
- Complete and track preventive maintenance programs and maintain detailed records
- Manage requisitions for replacement parts and emergency repair materials
- Supervise a team of at least four engineers
- Perform upkeep and maintenance of guest rooms and common areas
- Maintain and clean exterior areas, including parking lot and landscaping
- Troubleshoot and repair water, electric, sprinkler, fire alarm, electrical, HVAC, and other essential systems
- Report major repair needs and concerns to the General Manager
- Train, supervise, and lead the Engineering team
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, workspaces, equipment, and hotel grounds
- Assist with capital project management and contract administration
- Ensure compliance with safety and security policies, including suspicious activity reporting and guest-room security procedures
- Document and write incident reports for guest and team member issues
- Lead the safety committee and ensure adherence to OSHA, HAZCOM, and Blood Borne Pathogens regulations
- Maintain personal appearance and proper uniform standards
- Greet and acknowledge guests
- Perform other duties assigned by management
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in maintenance or groundskeeping
- At least 5 years of experience in hospitality engineering or facility management
- At least 2 years as a Maintenance Engineer in a Select Service Hotel
- College or trade school equivalent in mechanical, electrical, and/or technical disciplines is a plus
- Relevant certifications in specific trades such as HVAC, plumbing, or electrical preferred
- Certified Pool Operator certification may be required at certain locations, or ability to obtain within six months
- Working knowledge of general repair, plumbing, painting, HVAC, or electrical systems
- Previous hotel maintenance experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Outlook preferred
- Ability to interpret design drawings, operation manuals, and specifications
- Knowledge of MEPFP systems and repair/replacement procedures
- Familiarity with hotel water, electric, sprinkler, and fire alarm systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to train and guide engineering staff
- Ability to work efficiently under time constraints, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Availability for a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and extended hours
- 24/7 on-call availability
- Ability to utilize computers, printers, phones, and basic office supplies
- Ability to lift supplies up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand and walk for 90% of the workday
- Ability to reach, push, pull, bend, climb stairs, kneel, crouch, and crawl
