About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Cover call-outs and vacations in a per diem capacity
- Work in both Center City, Philadelphia and Greenville, Delaware offices as needed
- Perform laboratory tissue testing according to established procedures and protocols
- Receive, process, and prepare tissue samples for diagnosis
- Perform embedding, cutting, staining, cover-slipping, Immunohistochemistry, and special stains
- Specialize in designated laboratory disciplines as applicable
- Work collaboratively within the department and with other departments to provide quality service
- Perform histological procedures on surgical, biopsy, and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review
- Recognize deviations from expected results and analyze and correct problems to expedite diagnosis
- Maintain reagents and equipment and troubleshoot instrument issues
- Receive and validate laboratory orders and record and transmit test data
- Analyze and record QC data and implement corrective actions after consultation with supervisory personnel
- Communicate with clinical staff regarding specimen submission requirements, test results, and methodology
- Participate in orientation, training, in-service and continuing education programs, and annual proficiency testing
- Perform other duties assigned by the lead, supervisor, or manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s degree in related life science or applied science field OR HEW/HHS or HT(ASCP) certification with laboratory experience in lieu of a degree
- 1-2 years’ previous experience preferred; student training accepted
- HT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred
- Experience with embedding, microtomy, staining, cover-slipping, Immunohistochemistry, and special stains
- Ability to receive, process, and prepare tissue samples for diagnosis
- Ability to recognize deviations from expected results and analyze and correct problems
- Ability to maintain reagents and equipment in proper quantities and condition
- Ability to use computer equipment to receive and validate laboratory orders and record and transmit test data
- Ability to analyze and record QC data and implement corrective action after consultation
- Ability to communicate with clinical staff about specimen submission requirements, test results, and methodology
- Ability to participate in training, continuing education, and mandated annual proficiency testing
