About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide day-to-day support to Patient Access Representatives
  • Act as a subject matter and technical expert
  • Ensure staff provide a positive patient experience
  • Train and educate staff to enter complete and accurate orders, demographic and insurance information, authorizations, referrals, and medical necessity information
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and institutional protocols
  • Communicate and collect out-of-pocket liability from patients
  • Ensure timely, efficient, and accurate registration processes
  • Keep current on insurance tip sheets and workflow updates
  • Distribute daily work assignments
  • Quality-assure a sample of registrations and provide feedback on deficiencies
  • Coach staff and track performance improvement
  • Backfill for staff during meal breaks and cover scheduled or unscheduled absences as needed
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback on workflow changes and quality errors
  • Achieve individual and team performance metrics
  • Maintain departmental standard wait times for door-to-doctor time
  • Rotate assignments across all Patient Access points of service, including Outpatient Registration and the Emergency Department
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, staff, patients, families, clinical teams, and leadership consistent with Jefferson’s values

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Required High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of patient registration experience
  • Knowledge of patient registration, third-party insurance coverage including managed care plans, benefits, authorizations/referrals, and coverage requirements
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with healthcare EHR applications such as EPIC and Cerner
  • Ability to provide feedback and coaching
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Previous experience working in a physician’s office or hospital registration setting strongly preferred
  • HFMA certifications preferred
