About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage the day-to-day operations of the payroll department, including semi-monthly payroll processing and related reports
- Review, audit, and analyze employee timesheets, payroll records, and reports for accuracy
- Maintain the payroll system, employee information, and electronic time-tracking records
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Answer payroll questions and provide customer service to internal and external customers
- Ensure compliance with regulations concerning wage garnishments, taxes, and deductions
- Train and lead payroll staff and ensure deadlines are met
- Maintain confidentiality of employee information and payroll records
- Direct and plan daily operations of group benefits programs, including health, dental, disability, workers’ compensation, life insurance, travel and accident, and retirement plans
- Investigate new benefits programs, recommend improvements, assist with benefits plan design, and provide analytical and technical support
- Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators
- Coordinate data transfers for services, premiums, and plan administration
- Document and maintain administrative procedures for benefits processes
- Ensure benefits compliance and timely, accurate reporting and fee payments
- Gather employee data and oversee monthly billings and payment vouchers for group plans
- Provide functional expertise and coordinate functional design and project delivery activities
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical team members
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of payroll experience in payroll processing, employment tax filings, or payroll compliance research
- Employee benefits administration experience required
- Knowledge of government regulations, filing, and compliance requirements affecting employee benefits
- Experience in a software development environment is a plus
- Knowledge of UKG/UKG-Pro applications is an asset
- PCP certification preferred, or enrolled
- Strong understanding of Canadian employment rules and regulations
- Very good knowledge of MS Office suite (Word/Excel)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, creativity, perseverance, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to absorb new technologies and product features quickly
- Understanding of software product configuration and implementation concepts
- Comfortable navigating payroll software and identifying compliance gaps
- Proactive approach to regulation changes and solutions
