About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Direct and supervise all immigrant and refugee social services, including refugee resettlement, case management, volunteer and peer support programs, and community collaborations
  • Maintain relationships with funders and partner with leadership and development staff on grant proposals, reports, grant implementation, and spending oversight
  • Nurture a supportive, trauma-informed team environment focused on cross-cultural dynamics and collaboration
  • Provide ongoing professional development and team building for a multicultural department of approximately 18 staff
  • Lead strategic responses to ongoing changes in immigration and refugee resettlement
  • Represent JFCS internally and externally as an expert on refugee and immigrant community needs
  • Serve as liaison to regional and national task forces, committees, advisory councils, advocacy organizations, and other organizing bodies
  • Develop strategies for inclusivity in client services and address cross-cultural biases and differences
  • Ensure services have appropriate policies, procedures, and training consistent with organizational goals, client needs, and grant and contract requirements
  • Create emergency response plans for local and global events
  • Monitor local, state, and national developments concerning refugees and immigrants
  • Participate in organizational strategy, initiatives, outcomes, impact, and well-being activities
  • Foster internal and external partnerships and address urgent client and service provider issues
  • Advocate for systems-level change
  • Prepare and ensure compliance with foundation, state, local, and federal grants and contracts
  • Prepare accurate grant and contract reports and data submissions
  • Build, implement, maintain, and evaluate new regional and statewide initiatives
  • Hire, onboard, supervise, develop, and cross-train department staff
  • Lead departmental and project-specific meetings
  • Assist with challenging client situations using a strength-based, client-centered approach
  • Participate in leadership meetings, conferences, and other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in leadership with nonprofit administration
  • Experience working with refugees and/or other immigrants
  • Personal experience with the US immigration system preferred
  • Experience supervising a large team and mentoring new supervisors
  • Collaborative, humble approach to leadership, with a keen ability to listen critically and assimilate and synthesize diverse opinions, approaches, and information
  • Strong experience with program design
  • Thorough monitoring and evaluation abilities
  • Extensive experience with grant compliance and evaluation
  • Creativity, curiosity, lifelong learning, kindness, insightfulness, strategic thinking, passion for justice, and a calm and positive attitude
  • Ability to work prolonged periods at a desk and on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
