About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead EHS for Johnson Controls' global manufacturing and supply-chain network, including factories, warehouses, distribution centers, logistics activities and related locations worldwide
- Translate enterprise EHS direction into the network's framework, standards, expertise, assurance and performance system
- Lead through regional and site EHS teams and partner with Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Human Resources, Sustainability and regional leadership
- Make serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention the primary safety priority across the network
- Identify high-energy and high-consequence exposures and define and verify critical controls
- Own the EHS management system, risk-based assurance and performance framework
- Develop and execute a multi-year EHS strategy for manufacturing and supply-chain operations
- Establish standards and governance for occupational safety, critical exposures and environmental management
- Build leadership accountability, employee participation, stop-work authority and safety culture
- Implement and improve a global EHS management system and risk-based audit and assurance program
- Coordinate significant regulatory matters with Legal and enterprise EHS leadership
- Embed EHS requirements into capital planning, equipment procurement, facility design, automation, construction, expansions, relocations, acquisitions and network changes
- Build performance frameworks, executive dashboards and regular reviews; support executive and Board reporting
- Lead, develop and strengthen the global, regional and site EHS organization
- Establish network-wide learning from significant incidents and high-potential events
- Deliver first- and second-year outcomes including critical-risk baselines, verified controls, strategy approval, audit programs, performance dashboards, reduced serious injuries and sustained environmental compliance
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of relevant experience in EHS
- Significant progressive EHS leadership across a large, geographically dispersed manufacturing, industrial or supply-chain network, with practical factory-floor experience
- Executive-level experience developing and implementing global EHS strategies, standards, management systems and assurance programs
- Demonstrated success preventing serious injuries and fatalities (SIF) through critical-risk identification, verification of controls and engineering-led risk reduction
- Record of building operational accountability and influencing senior leaders across a complex matrix without relying solely on functional authority
- Development of regional and site EHS leaders, succession planning and resource alignment
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science or a related technical discipline
- Experience in organizations with large global manufacturing footprints and mature operational-excellence systems
- Experience integrating EHS into capital projects, engineering, automation and continuous improvement
- Experience establishing global standards across different regulatory and cultural environments and levels of site maturity
- Core knowledge of SIF prevention, high-energy hazard identification and critical-control management
- Knowledge of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, occupational health and exposure assessment
- Knowledge of environmental compliance covering air, wastewater, waste, hazardous materials, spills and permits
- Knowledge of EHS management systems and risk-based audit and assurance, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- Knowledge of design-for-safety, engineering controls and management of change for capital, equipment and network changes
- Knowledge of EHS performance measurement, leading indicators and analytics
