About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify opportunities and implement the external innovation plan for Interventional Oncology (INTO)
  • Partner with J&J’s Global External Innovation Network to accelerate an innovative INTO project and solutions portfolio
  • Expand the drug discovery pipeline through academic, biotech and venture partnerships
  • Lead multi-function diligence teams evaluating novel opportunities, including MTA/lab-based evaluation
  • Develop research and project plans with internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage venture, transaction and commercial deal processes to drive decision-making
  • Scout, evaluate and partner on external opportunities and innovative solutions
  • Establish and maintain relationships with biotech, academia, industry, entrepreneurs and potential licensors worldwide
  • Lead external platform, mechanism-of-action and focused projects and opportunity landscaping
  • Develop partnering strategies aligned with Oncology Therapeutic Area and global INTO strategies
  • Lead cross-functional due diligence for in-licensing, collaboration and alliance opportunities through Proof of Concept
  • Prepare and present scientific and business rationales for recommendations to Oncology stakeholders and Janssen R&D leadership
  • Collaborate across Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer and Janssen R&D functions
  • Support external visibility by participating on committees and presenting at meetings
  • Stay current with emerging scientific, technological and medical innovations
  • Represent the company as a partner of choice to attract potential partners

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • PhD
  • A minimum of 15 years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience
  • Experience in Oncology drug discovery, scientific innovation, licensing and deal aspects
  • Expertise in Oncology / Immune Oncology / Med Tech
  • Superior influencing skills and organizational savvy
  • Experience evaluating and executing external opportunities with academic, biotech and venture partners
  • Experience leading cross-functional diligence teams in a matrix organization
  • Experience with MTA/lab-based evaluation
  • Experience with small molecule and protein modalities and novel platforms
  • MD or MBA with PhD would be a plus
