About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define and execute the TDS AI Solutions strategy and portfolio roadmap aligned to TDS and DDSAI priorities
  • Lead design, build, validation, and delivery of AI/ML, generative AI, and agentic co-scientist solutions
  • Translate complex scientific and operational problems into well-scoped modeling problems
  • Establish reusable solution patterns, shared components, evaluation frameworks, and agentic architectures
  • Serve as DDSAI technical owner for shared AI capabilities for TDS
  • Represent TDS requirements to cross-functional platform, data, and technology teams
  • Set standards for model development, validation, evaluation, monitoring, version control, testing, documentation, reproducibility, and code review
  • Partner with J&J Technology and platform teams on deployment, integration, scaling, and monitoring
  • Drive model validation, transparency, traceability, and computerized-system compliance in regulated GxP environments
  • Define model lifecycle and sustainability, including support, documentation, retraining, revalidation, total cost of ownership, and retirement criteria
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team of applied data scientists, ML scientists, and GenAI/NLP engineers
  • Grow TDS quantitative and AI fluency through common tooling, standards, templates, onboarding, code review, mentoring, and communities of practice
  • Collaborate with process chemists, analytical and formulation scientists, engineers, and supply chain SMEs
  • Align Senior Director and VP stakeholders across TDS, DDSAI, and J&J Technology to prioritize the portfolio and drive adoption
  • Lead 5+ individual contributors and deliver durable, reusable AI capabilities for Therapeutics Development & Supply

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field
  • 10+ years of experience in applied data science, machine learning, or AI solution development
  • At least 3 years in a people leadership role
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Python
  • Expertise in applied machine learning and statistical modeling
  • Expertise with GenAI/LLMs and agentic patterns
  • Experience with cloud environments, including AWS and Snowflake
  • Track record of building teams that deliver AI/ML into production and sustained adoption
  • Experience creating reusable components used beyond their original use case
  • Ability to influence and align technical and business stakeholders at Senior Director and VP level
  • Evidence of growing data science capability through standards, shared tooling, training, or mentoring
  • Ability to collaborate with scientists and subject matter experts to co-define problems and co-develop adopted solutions
  • Preferred: experience in pharmaceutical R&D, CMC/process development, life sciences manufacturing, clinical supply, or GxP environments
  • Preferred: experience delivering generative AI and agentic co-scientist solutions, including evaluation, guardrails, and orchestration
  • Preferred: familiarity with MLOps practices, knowledge graphs, semantic layers, and deployment or architecture decisions with IT and platform organizations
