About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and execute policy positions and advocacy initiatives using a consensus approach
- Drive a high-visibility policy portfolio covering pharmaceutical and medical device public policy issues
- Analyze and drive strategy on state legislation in assigned issue areas with State Affairs leads
- Partner with J&J stakeholders on implementation of enacted state policy changes
- Lead or support trade association engagement and coordination
- Plan, develop, prepare, and submit written comments and testimony
- Build and leverage relationships with external stakeholders to advance payment and health care delivery priorities
- Provide subject matter expertise and recommendations to J&J business partners
- Monitor and participate in government and stakeholder meetings, official proceedings, and related activities
- Develop advocacy materials
- Represent J&J at external venues, conferences, and events
- Support thought leadership and shape new policies with key stakeholder groups
- Identify and advance necessary policy research with internal partners
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree required
- MHS/MA/MS or higher with health policy focus strongly preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of related professional experience
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of US public policy development, including regulatory and legislative processes
- Ability to analyze complex health care regulations and policies, develop and assess policy options, and prepare comments on complex healthcare rulemakings and proceedings
- High-level strategic and analytical thinking
- Research ability and working knowledge of relevant information and data sources
- Skilled in using data to inform policy positions and advocacy strategy
- Demonstrated internal and external leadership skills and gravitas
- Ability to work proactively and independently
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, industry personnel, subject matter experts, government affairs staff, and high-level executives
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, especially persuasive writing
- Commitment to learning emerging technologies such as AI
- Ability to travel up to 10%
